Points to A’ja Wilson for brevity.
Asked to describe teammate Kaahliah Copper in one word during an on-court interview after the U.S. women’s basketball team won the gold medal at the Olympics, Wilson didn’t take long to think.
“You bitch,” Wilson said, letting the expletive slip past NBC’s censors, then walked away.
Copper, who finished with 12 points, made two crucial free throws with 3.9 seconds left to give Team USA a three-point lead.
In the end, the reason the game ended in regulation was because France’s Gaby Williams made a buzzer-beater bank shot but had her foot on the three-point line.
This means that the final Olympic medal was won by the US team, with the gold medal being won 67-66.
It was the eighth consecutive gold medal for the USA women’s basketball team and the 61st consecutive victory for an Olympic team.
The gold medal was the U.S. team’s 40th at the Summer Olympics, tying them with China for the most overall.
It was the first time that two countries tied for the most gold medals (the U.S. team won handily in the medal total).

That was expected, given the dominance of the women’s basketball program.
In fact, their narrow defeat to France was the closest they’ve come to a defeat since 1992, before Wilson and Copper were even born.
But the worst-case scenario didn’t come to fruition, as Copper’s free throws saved Team USA.
