Former President Trump posted to social media platform X on Monday for the first time in nearly a year, sharing a campaign ad just hours before an interview with the platform’s owner, Elon Musk.
Post by X 2 minutes 30 seconds advertisement, The title reads “Make America Great Again!” but there is no caption.
The ad covers Trump’s rise to the White House and the legal battles he has faced since. Featured Similar posts have been made by President Trump on his other social media platforms in recent weeks.
In less than an hour, X’s post had been viewed more than 4.8 million times, reposted more than 50,000 times, and received more than 21,000 comments.
Monday was Trump’s second time posting on X since the account was suspended following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot and then reinstated the following year. His only post since then was on Aug. 24, 2023, when he shared a mugshot of his arrest in Fulton County, Georgia, after surrendering earlier that day.
Musk, who reinstated Trump’s account after buying X in 2022, is scheduled to interview Trump on Monday. It will be held live It will be streamed on President Trump’s official account at 8:00 p.m. ET.
“Live conversations” will be “unscripted and with no restrictions on topics.” Musk wrote on Sunday. “It should be a lot of fun,” he added. He encouraged users to post specific questions or comments in the stream’s chat.
Musk’s reinstatement of Trump’s account in 2022 was part of his newfound commitment to Facebook’s content moderation policies. He has since reinstated the accounts of several other controversial figures, including that of far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones late last year.
During his 2016 presidential campaign and first term in the White House, Trump was known to use Twitter at the time to send out everything from criticism of political opponents to announcing major White House decisions.
Musk endorsed Trump’s reelection shortly after last month’s assassination attempt and has since launched a series of attacks on Vice President Harris, who became the Democratic presidential nominee after President Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
