Dallas Jenkins Teases Judas’ Shocking Betrayal in ‘The Chosen’ Season 5

The director and showrunner of “The Chosen” has hinted at the betrayal of Jesus by one of his 12 disciples, Judas Iscariot, in the next season.

In a recent interview directWhen asked which character’s storyline viewers would most like to see in season 5 of The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins replied, He answered, “Judas.”

“Seeing Judas is — and I hope it’s not a spoiler for people who have read the Bible — but what’s not a spoiler is how it happens and who it affects and how the disciples are conflicted knowing that something bad is happening. Jesus very clearly told his disciples, ‘One of you will betray me.’ They had no room for that. They didn’t understand. They had no idea who it was. So how did that happen? Why didn’t they have any idea it was Judas? I love exploring that. How does this affect Judas? Judas probably had a family.”

Actor Luke Dyman plays Judas, the man who infamously betrayed Christ.

Jenkins also touched on the “sociopolitical dynamics” that could come up in the upcoming season, as well as the question of “who Judas approaches first.”

“We also know that there were socio-political dynamics at play. So who specifically was it that Judas approached first? The Romans? The religious leaders? How did this happen, and how did it happen in secrecy? How did it happen without the disciples knowing?” he asked.

Jenkins described some of the scenes already shot as Judas Iscariot as “heartbreaking and difficult to shoot,” noting that they “had a profound effect on Luke DeMian, who plays Judas.”

“It’s been exciting and heartbreaking to portray that in season five. We’ve already shot some scenes. It’s been really heartbreaking and difficult to film and it’s going to be difficult to watch. It had a huge impact on Luke Demian, who plays Judas. How to portray a scene between Jesus and Judas knowing what’s going to happen. It was really fascinating to portray.”

The first four seasons of The Chosen are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and the The Chosen app. Season 1 is also available on Netflix.
