After years of historic victories and steady growth, Florida Republicans now outnumber Democrats in registered voters by 1 million, the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) announced over the weekend.
The Republican Party of Florida announced the milestone, claiming that after years of being a purple battleground state, Florida “has been cemented as a deep red state through Republican leadership.” The press release attributed the historic achievement in part to “the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump, Governor Ron DeSantis, and key Republican officials,” including “Attorney General Ashley Moody, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, Speaker of the House Paul Renner, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, Senate President candidate Ben Albritton, and House Speaker candidate Danny Perez.”
RPOF Chairman Evan Power said the success of the Florida Republican Party goes far beyond voter registration numbers.
“This is about a vision to make Florida a beacon of freedom to the rest of the country,” he said in a statement, expressing his gratitude.
“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the unwavering commitment of our Republican elected officials, we have built the most successful political party in the nation,” he continued. “Together, we will continue to show the rest of the country that Florida is leading the way.”
This trend of Republicans overtaking Democrats began in November 2021. As Breitbart News reports:
From that moment on, Republicans continued to widen their lead, outnumbering Democrats by more than 100,000 just a few months later in March 2022. That figure doubled to 200,000 in July and was around 350,000 in December 2022. By February 2023, Republicans outnumbered Democrats by 400,000 in registered voters, swelling that figure to 680,030. As of October 31, 2023, there are 5,153,695 Republican voters and 4,473,665 Democratic voters.
In heralding the 1 million milestone in April, DeSantis noted that just six years ago, Democrats outnumbered Republicans in the state by about 300,000.
“Six years ago, registered Democrats outnumbered registered Republicans by approximately 300,000. And never in the history of Florida have registered Republicans outnumbered Democrats. Today, Republicans outnumber Democrats by 1 million, a major shift that few thought possible (and contrary to many predictions that Florida would become a blue state),” he said of the feat in a statement on Sunday, adding, “Leadership matters. Bold colors, not pale pastels.”
