White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Monday tried unsuccessfully to claim credit for a “tip tax free” proposal proposed earlier this summer by former President Donald Trump and supported by Vice President Kamala Harris.
As Breitbart News reported, Harris has copied Trump’s “no tax on tips” policy, which he speech “I’m not going to let you down,” Harris said at a campaign rally on Saturday at last month’s Republican National Convention, where she was the deciding vote to pass the Inflation Control Act of 2022, which provides for the hiring of 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents whose duties include collecting taxes on tips from tipped employees, as stated by Rep. Jim Banks (R-Indiana).

But Harris, sensing a policy winner and hoping to appeal to unionized food service workers in Las Vegas, Nevada, simply stole Trump’s policy. Jean-Pierre said Monday that President Joe Biden also supports a “no tip tax” policy.
When asked by a reporter if the Biden-Harris administration had ever adopted a “no tax on tips” policy in the three and a half years since taking office, Jean-Pierre hesitated before ultimately acknowledging it was a “new idea.” She said Biden and Harris generally support helping the working class, while Republicans do not.
The fact that Harris would back away from policies due to so-called “dangers to democracy” like Trump also raised eyebrows.
When pressed later by another reporter about why the president and vice president had never discussed “no tax on tips,” Jean-Pierre said they had discussed raising the minimum wage, but Republicans opposed it.
“I don’t know the specific timeline,” she finally said, reiterating that the president supports “no tax on tips.”
