Tyler Conklin makes highlight-reel one-handed catch at Jets practice

Observations from the Jets’ training camp practice on Monday.

Carry it in

During the second snap of a team drill, Tyler Conklin made a deft one-handed catch of a pass from Aaron Rodgers, moving away from safety Ashtyn Davis and pulling the ball toward Rodgers with his right hand.

Conklin has 119 catches in his two seasons with the Jets, but is entering a contract year and could see an increase in receiving yards (552 and 621, respectively) starting in 2022 and 2023 due to his connection to Rodgers.

“Ah” No!

The first-team offense struggled to move the ball at times, with both Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall having passes blasted off their hands while in coverage on the final drive.

It caught my eye

For the first time in training camp, the Jets used first-round draft pick Olu Fashanu at right tackle instead of the left tackle he played in college and in opening practice.

Coach Robert Saleh said the Jets plan to cross-train Fashanu over the next few weeks.

The Rogers Report

Rodgers unofficially completed six passes during the team session and was sacked at one point and had an interception by Tony Adams that appeared to be void because it was a free play.

It’s unclear whether CJ Mosley’s interception earlier was also called off because of a free play.

Wilson also got into a free position to attempt a touchdown pass.

Injury Report

Robert Saleh said tight end Jeremy Ruckert is “experiencing some issues” and will be out for the next few days.

CB Michael Carter II may return next week.

WR Mike Williams and OL Tyron Smith did not practice with the team, with Saleh saying the latter was because the team was being cautious about its veteran players ahead of the regular season.

LB Jimmy Sciaro tore his ACL in Saturday’s game and was released from the hospital on Monday.
