Three people were killed and one injured when a train collided with a passenger car in Augusta County, Virginia, on Monday night, authorities said.
According to Virginia State Police, a 15-passenger van with four passengers was leaving a solar panel work site in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, and was hit in the driver’s side by a Norfolk Southern Railroad train heading toward Waynesboro just after 8 p.m. WHSV reported.
Stuart EMS pronounced two men and one woman dead at the scene at 8:13 p.m., according to the outlet. Another female passenger was taken to Augusta Health for treatment of injuries.

According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of railroad tracks and a driveway in the 100 block of Wayne Street. The initial call came in at 8:08 p.m.
“Witnesses heard the train honk its horn,” police Sergeant CJ Aikens said. He told WVIR“They looked up and just saw the impact.”
Police spoke with the train’s conductor and engineer and concluded that the train did not appear to be traveling faster than normal speeds.

Police are in the process of notifying family members and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
