In a string of new artworks that have captivated audiences over the past week, enigmatic illustrator Banksy has sparked consternation among fans who have taken to the comments sections of social media posts to offer ever-changing explanations behind his murals.
The unknown artist has been spotted on camera dressed in costume before, but his true identity has never been fully revealed since he began working with spray paint and stencils in Bristol, England, in the 1990s.
He is one of the most famous artists in the world.

The satirical artist has been more active than usual in the past week, leaving fans surprised and concerned about what motivates him to paint murals every day. Banksy is most present in the midst of global suffering.
Londoners flock, transfixed, to the spots where Banksy has mischievously left his mark, then photograph their creations before fleeing once again to his unknown peace of quiet.
On August 5, Banksy unveiled the silhouette of a goat or gazelle, appearing relaxed yet cramped, perched on a rock ledge, with rocks at the animal’s feet, suggesting an inevitable fall.

Some social media users believe the goat or a type of antelope is the national animal of the Palestinians and that the limited edition paintings could contain a message about the Gaza conflict.
The following day, Banksy is said to have painted a mural of two elephants on the window next door, with a chipped or discoloured brick in the middle of their trunks that the two are presumably sharing or playing with.

Banksy draws on the world around him, often using key elements of the earth and humanity to add colour and doubt. In March this year, Banksy admitted to painting blobs of green paint – unnatural leaves – behind a wall of leafless trees.
Fans of the unnamed artist flocked to the comments section of his Aug. 7 post, trying to decipher the meaning of three monkeys prancing around on a concrete wall beneath a transport hub that carries tourists and working professionals every day.
Shortly after Banksy posted the mural of a howling wolf to his social media pages last week, the satellite, which sits atop a graffiti-covered garage, was suddenly stolen by a masked assailant.
Just as Banksy’s masterpieces have sold for large sums in the past, the elusive artist’s work is often captured by onlookers, even if it is removable.
According to Statista, the UK-based street artist’s 2021 painting “Love is in the Bin” sold at auction for a staggering 18.58 million British pounds (approximately 23.7 million US dollars).

Banksy left the silhouettes of two pelicans at Bonner’s Fish Bar, a fish and chip shop in northeast London, on Friday, showing one bird happily shoveling a fish into its mouth while the other attempts to snatch a bite from the small shop sign hanging in front of the shop.
The Walthamstow store posted to social media to thank the unique gesture.
“We are so honoured to have a Banksy painting hanging next to our shop! Thank you for choosing us and Walthamstow to showcase your talent,” the account wrote.
The painting came after anti-Pew protesters took to the streets of Walthamstow to protest against the lack of diversity and inclusion in the London borough.
Among Banksy’s extensive body of work are a stretching cat painted on a since-removed billboard, a colorful blue-hued painting of a school of swimming piranhas on a London police box, and a grey rhinoceros that appears to be astride a small car abandoned on a London sidewalk.
The comments sections of social media posts supporting his efforts are filled with curious and imaginative onlookers.

Banksy posted his latest work today outside the shutter doors of London Zoo, depicting the silhouette of a gorilla lifting a garage-like door to free seals and birds, while other animals stare, eyes wide open.
It is unclear if Banksy has completed the series as of now, but fans believe he has finished the series.
