WaPo journalist torched online for asking Jean-Pierre if Biden admin has looked into stopping Elon Musk interview with Trump

A Washington Post reporter faced the wrath of online critics after questioning whether the Biden administration was considering taking action over an interview with former President Donald Trump on social media platform “X.”

Cleve Wootson asked the odd question during a White House press conference on Monday, just before an interview with X’s owner, billionaire Elon Musk.

“It’s really important to point that out, as you’re doing.”

“Misinformation on Twitter isn’t just a campaign issue, I think it’s an American issue,” Wootson said.

“What role does the White House or the president have in preventing this or preventing its escalation or intervening? Some of this has been about campaign misinformation, but it’s a much broader issue,” he added.

“You won’t read out here exactly how we are doing this, but we believe they are accountable. They are a private company and we are mindful of that,” spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre responded.

“But it’s really important that you point it out, as you’re doing. I don’t know the specifics about what we’ve been doing internally related to the interviews, but it’s something that I’m tracking,” she added.

A video of the exchange was posted to social media and shared widely, garnering millions of views, with many users blasting the reporter for calling for government censorship.

The former president’s interview with X began late but continued as scheduled without government intervention.
