‘Raw dogging’ a flight could kill you, experts warn

Involving “raw” dogs in the fight against this virus could be deadly.

The bizarre flights have become this summer’s most talked-about travel trend as social media clout-seekers flock to “live dog flights” that offer no entertainment whatsoever — no music, no streaming, no sleep, just staring at maps on seat-back screens or sitting in silence.

Some passengers go a step further and choose to forgo any food, snacks or drinks, no matter how long the flight.

The trend has been blamed on the Apple TV+ series “Hijacked,” in which Idris Elba’s character Sam Nelson is forced to endure a seven-plus hour flight from Dubai to London with no amenities after the Airbus he’s traveling on is hijacked by criminals.

The phenomenon started to go mainstream, with famous passengers bragging about flying in the planes.

But experts warn it can be harmful to physical health and potentially deadly for those “dumb enough” to take part.

“This is one of the most dangerous trends I’ve seen on social media in a while and while on the surface it seems harmless and a bit of fun, this could have deadly consequences and I would urge people to act sensibly when travelling,” King said.

Dr Gill Jenkins, a general practitioner and air ambulance medical attendant, echoed King’s views.

“They’re idiots,” Jenkins said. He told the BBC“Digital detoxes may help a little, but anything else is against medical advice.”

“The risk with long-haul flying is the risk of becoming dehydrated,” Jenkins added. “If you don’t move, you run the risk of deep vein thrombosis, which makes the dehydration worse. It’s kind of silly not to go to the bathroom. If you need to go to the bathroom, you can go to the bathroom.”

Travel experts are also advising against this trend.
