Majority of Americans want troops sent to border, oppose illegal immigration

(The Center Square) – Polls consistently show two key rebukes to the Biden-Harris Administration’s border policies: Not only do Americans overwhelmingly oppose illegal immigration, but they also want to send troops to the southern border to secure it.

Two recent new polls confirm this trend, but previous polls have consistently shown Americans overwhelmingly disapproving of Vice President Kamala Harris’ job as “secretary for border affairs.”

New Naples News Service vote 84% of registered voters believe illegal immigration is a bad thing for the United States, while only 12% believe it’s a good thing.

The ratio of people opposed to and in support of illegal immigration “has remained roughly the same for decades,” the news agency reported.

An overwhelming majority of those surveyed, 71%, support legal immigration and argue that it is good for the country.

Those who oppose illegal immigration say it hurts Americans.

“This view has remained constant for decades, with voters drawing a clear distinction between legal and illegal immigration,” the news agency reported.

The main reason for opposition is crime.

Of those surveyed, 49% cited crime as their biggest concern, 28% said illegal immigration allows criminals and terrorists into the country, 26% said it puts a strain on the economy and health care, 16% said it allows dangerous people into the country, and 5% said it allows drug and dealers into the country.

“Overall, these numbers reflect the fact that voters view America as both a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws,” said Scott Rasmussen, president of RMG Research.

“Voters understand why most immigrants want to bring their families to the land of opportunity, but they are angry that the federal government tolerates and encourages illegal immigration.”

Another vote75% of respondents said they supported sending U.S. troops to “fight drug cartels and protect the border.”

“This is a significant increase since President Biden took office, and the total includes 90% Republicans and 62% Democrats,” the Neapolitan News Service reported.

The findings are consistent with those of several other polls.

A recent Rasmussen Reports poll found that nearly two-thirds of people surveyed said the crisis on the southern border should be called an invasion.

A majority said border security is a vital national security interest (70%) and acknowledged that what is happening now is a crisis (72%).

This was after Texas changed the debate about borders, introducing the word and concept of “invasion” to the American public, with 55 counties declaring themselves invaded.

Sixty counties have also issued disaster declarations due to the border crisis.

A recent report from the Monmouth University Polling Institute found that a majority of people polled support building a border wall, a policy implemented by former President Donald Trump that Biden ended on his first day in office.

The poll found a majority, over 80 percent, said illegal immigration was a “very serious (61 percent) or somewhat serious (23 percent) problem.”

“The public has become more concerned about illegal immigration during President Joe Biden’s term than under the previous two administrations,” the institute said.

A University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll found that a majority of Texans, including Hispanics and blacks, support the wall and border security measures.

The survey also found that support for Trump is growing among Texas Democrats.

Overall, 65% of Texas voters support building their own wall or barrier, 57% support Texas installing marine buoys on the Rio Grande River, and 66% support deploying additional state police and military resources to the border.

A majority of Hispanic voters in Texas (56%) also dislike Biden’s handling of immigration and border security, according to the UT/TPP poll.

Another UT/TPP poll found that Texans overwhelmingly support Governor Greg Abbott’s border security efforts through Operation Lone Star, which include the installation of a marine barrier by Texas, construction of a border wall and physical barrier on the Texas-Mexico border, deploying additional resources to the border, and busing illegal aliens north.

These findings are similar to those of a poll conducted by The Center Square Voters’ Voice in partnership with Noble Predictive Insights.

A poll last year found that 82% of Americans are concerned about border security.

Fifty percent of respondents said the border crisis has worsened under the Biden-Harris administration.

Another survey from March found that 62% of voters said the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction under a Biden-Harris administration, and yet another showed illegal immigration was almost as big a concern as the high cost of inflation.

A separate Voter’s Voice poll found that Americans want states to play a role in border security and support Texas and other states’ right to protect their borders.
