Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) is pressuring Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) to agree to a second vice presidential debate, arguing that “the American people deserve as many debates as possible.”
Waltz, who is Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, confirmed Wednesday that he will participate in the vice presidential debate on CBS News on Oct. 1, while Vance, former President Donald Trump’s running mate, urged Waltz to also take part in the Sept. 18 CNN debate.
“The American people have a right to participate in as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has already challenged Kamala to three debates,” Vance said on X.
“I am open to the CBS debate on October 1st as well as the CNN debate on September 18th,” he continued. “I look forward to seeing you at both!”

On Wednesday, CBS News released a statement inviting both vice presidential candidates to debate in New York City, offering them the choice of September 17, September 24, October 1 or October 8.
“I look forward to their response and will provide voters with an opportunity to hear directly from their vice presidential nominee,” CBS News reported, to which Walz replied, “See you on October 1st, JD.”

The front-runners, Trump and Harris, are expected to face off in the first presidential debate, moderated by ABC News, on September 10.
“I’ve heard that Donald Trump has finally committed to having a debate with me on September 10th,” Harris, who has yet to hold a press conference since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and nominated her to succeed him, said on The X on Aug. 8. “I’m looking forward to it.”

Notably, Trump had initially offered to take part in a handful of debates, challenging Harris to debate on Fox News on September 4, NBC News on September 10 and ABC News on September 25. Trump has also already debated Biden once in the 2024 election season, effectively sealing the political demise of the 81-year-old Biden and sparking widespread panic within the Democratic Party and calls for Biden to be replaced.

However, it is unclear whether Harris will take part in further debates with Trump. Breitbart News reported on August 8 that “Harris has agreed to debate NBC News on September 10, but declined to comment on whether she will take part in the other two.”
