Kirk Herbstreit ‘doesn’t give a s***’ about being canceled

College sports announcer Kirk Herbstreit said he’s done dealing with “two different rules” when it comes to expressing his opinion.

The former Ohio State quarterback was asked online by a fan how he felt about men who identify as male, or female, participating in women’s sports.

“Should men be in women’s sports? It’s time for powerful men in sports media to stand up, Kirk,” a fan asked. X.

“Of course not. That’s a stupid question.” Reply.

“I wasn’t worried. Not at all.”

The announcer has been a fixture on ESPN’s “College Gameday” for decades and also holds a special place in the hearts of video game fans for lending his voice to college football games.

A week after his candid response, Herbstreit said, Dan Dakich Why did you decide to answer the question that way?

“I kept quiet about a lot of topics for three years,” Herbstreit said. “I happened to see someone else say the same thing. He said, ‘Should men be able to play women’s sports?’ and I said, ‘That’s a stupid question, of course not.’ I didn’t think about it or answer at length, and that was it. I had more positive things to do. [reaction] It wasn’t negative, but people were definitely upset, and rightfully so.”

The announcer said he has four sons and that if he had a daughter he would “be more outspoken” on the issue.

“It’s as if there are two different rules.”

Dakich pressed Herbstreit on whether he realized his comments would be controversial, given his large platform, and Herbstreit didn’t back down, saying he’s had enough of being sensitive about his opinions.

“I just didn’t care. I don’t care at all. I don’t care at all about anything anymore,” the 54-year-old said.

Herbstreit then pointed out the two-tiered system of how Christian opinions are portrayed in the media.

“It’s like there’s two different rules and if you’re a little more traditionally minded and you know I’m a Christian, then there’s a different rule from that standpoint. It’s hard to turn the cheek over and over again, so yeah, I really didn’t care and it doesn’t bother me at all.”

The football analyst also scoffed at the idea of ​​it being cancelled, reiterating that he has no energy to give in that regard.

“I think [not caring] That’s a good thing… compared to, ‘Oh, I don’t want to get canceled, I don’t want to upset people,’ I don’t care at all.”

College football resumes 2024 season Herbstreit will be appearing on ESPN’s kickoff show in Dublin on August 24th. Florida State University and Georgia Institute of Technology.
