A majority of Americans believe Vice President Kamala Harris was aware of President Biden’s mental decline before he dropped out of the 2024 presidential race last month, according to a new poll.
of Fox News PollThe poll released Thursday found that 73% of voters felt Harris had been aware of the 81-year-old president’s declining eyesight in recent years.
Just 21% said they were unaware of Biden’s declining performance, which the 59-year-old vice president revealed following his disastrous June debate with former President Donald Trump and prompted Democrats to call for him to step down.
Majorities from both parties, including 58% of Democrats, 90% of Republicans and 69% of independents, suggested they felt Harris must have been aware of Biden’s condition.
The poll results echo claims by the 78-year-old Trump and other Republicans that Harris and leading Democrats have long hidden Biden’s declining mental health from the public.
“Joe, Kamala and the entire Democratic establishment were caught red-handed in the middle of the biggest scandal and the biggest cover-up,” the former president said at a Florida rally last month before Biden dropped out of the race.
“This is the greatest cover-up in political history,” Trump added, calling the alleged plot “a wicked plan to deceive the American people about the cognitive abilities of the man in the Oval Office.”
But most voters don’t feel Biden’s decline in approval ratings is so severe that he would have to step down immediately.
The poll found that two-thirds of voters (67%) believe the president should serve out his term rather than stepping down.
Just 32% said Biden, who was seeking reelection, should resign.
Ms. Harris accompanied Mr. Biden on Thursday to celebrate the announcement that he would lower the prices of 10 prescription drugs for seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D. It was the pair’s first joint appearance since Mr. Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Mr. Harris to run for vice president.
