The House Oversight Committee has opened an investigation into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) over his numerous ties to China, including a student exchange program funded by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and a Chinese secret police department operating in the Twin Cities.
According to the House Oversight Committee, Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) opened the investigation “after receiving a report detailing the Governor’s longstanding ties to Chinese Communist Party entities and officials.”
“Mr. Waltz has visited China 30 times, served as a fellow at China organizations loyal to the Chinese Communist Party, and spoke alongside representatives of Chinese organizations that the State Department has exposed as Chinese Communist Party attempts to influence and co-opt local leaders,” the House Oversight Committee said in a statement. “An FBI briefer recently told the committee that the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force is investigating Chinese Communist Party activity similar to Governor Waltz’s ties to the PRC.”
“In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Chairman Comer has requested information, documents, and communications regarding entities and officials with ties to the Chinese Communist Party with whom Governor Walz has been associated and collaborated,” the committee added.

““The American people should fully understand just how deep Governor Walz’s ties run to China,” Comer said in a statement.
“Governor Waltz has visited China at least 30 times; served as a fellow at a Chinese institution that pledges allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party; and met with representatives of Chinese organizations that the State Department has exposed as Chinese Communist Party efforts to influence local leaders,” he said, citing several examples.

Indeed, Waltz has a long-standing admiration for China, beginning with a student exchange program funded by the Chinese Communist Party.
“The concern is, you can love China, you can love the Chinese people. The problem is, when you set up an exchange program to bring students to China, as he did, you’re not dealing with the Chinese people, you’re dealing with the Chinese Communist Party.” The New York Times Peter Schweitzer, bestselling author and senior contributor to Breitbart News, recently Breitbart News DailyIt details Waltz’s numerous ties to China and Chinese organizations.
“And in the case of his program, it’s funded by the Chinese Communist Party. It was organized with the assistance of the Chinese Communist Party,” he said, noting that Waltz reportedly told students to “tone down their Americanness.”
“When you look at what the students are doing, it seems a little odd. Local newspapers in the Midwest have reported that students were told by Waltz to ‘too muchn’ American when they go to China,’ which is a little odd, because if you’re doing a cultural exchange, the purpose is to learn about other cultures,” Schweitzer said, explaining that by contrast, Chinese students are never asked to toe down their Chineseness.
But Waltz’s ties don’t end there, he also has what Schweitzer described as a “strange relationship with the Chinese government,” speaking in 2019 for an organization that functioned as a front for the Chinese Communist Party.
“And yet here he is, visiting and speaking in China in 2019,” he said, noting that Waltz, who chose to get married on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, exudes a certain warmth when he speaks about China.
“Whenever he talks about China, it’s with great warmth. Whenever the issue of human rights comes up, the response is always that we have the same things, we have the same problems. His most famous comment in 2010 was talking about the Tiananmen Square incident, where 10,000 people were killed by Chinese troops, and he said, ‘Yes, you know, we had Wounded Knee.’ Wounded Knee, of course, was in the 19th century. Casualties, you know, maybe 1 percent. It was a terrible situation. I don’t mean to make light of it, but comparing Wounded Knee to Tiananmen is a ridiculous comparison that he’s trying to draw to normalize the actions of the Chinese Communist Party,” Schweitzer explained.
Furthermore, Schweitzer highlighted the existence of “secret police stations set up by the Chinese in the United States” that function as “so-called united front groups in the West. These “secret police stations,” working with Chinese intelligence agencies, are used by the Chinese Communist Party to intimidate Chinese people in the United States who are critical of the Chinese Communist Party.
“They literally go around to people telling them to shut up, to stop talking about this, to stop criticizing the government. And in fact there are at least six documented cases of these networks abducting Chinese nationals in the United States and sending them back to mainland China,” he continued.
The reason this applies to Waltz is because one of these organizations is in Waltz’s state, the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Not only that, but the organization that runs that secret police department is actually “tied to a group called Minnesota Global, which is Tim Waltz’s organization,” Schweitzer added.
“Now in 2020 and since 2020, Tim Walz has spoken ad nauseam about the mistreatment he’s endured by police, the Twin Cities police department, the local Minneapolis police department, and the terrible conduct they’ve engaged in with the way they’ve made arrests,” Schweitzer said.
listen:
“I have not found a single instance where Tim Waltz has criticized this Chinese secret police department operating in the Twin Cities, so again, I have to wonder why there is this disconnect,” he asked. “Why are you so critical and cruel about your own country, but never do even a little bit of the same about China?”
“I just wonder why the governor doesn’t do anything, why doesn’t he call them out, why doesn’t he tell them to stop doing this, because they’re harassing the people of our state,” Schweitzer said.
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee appear to want to get to the bottom of it.
