2 hurt by propeller in sailboat-motorboat crash in Mass.

Two people were injured by the boat’s propeller when a motorboat and a sailboat collided off the coast of Massachusetts on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The Weymouth Police Department confirmed to The Washington Post that the boat crashed around 12:30 p.m. in Hingham Bay near Grape Island, about 15 miles south of Boston.

A 38-foot motorboat was heading into the main channel from Hingham when it collided with a 21-foot sailboat. U.S. Coast Guard He told WCVB.

Authorities said two passengers on the yacht suffered injuries believed to have been caused by a propeller strike, with the woman’s injuries described as serious.

The Weymouth Police Department’s Marine Unit was first on scene and applied tourniquets to the victims’ wounds before transporting them to a local hospital.

Two people on board the motorboat were taken in for questioning, the report said.

Aerial footage from WCVB showed the yacht almost completely submerged behind a motorboat surrounded by authorities.

The Massachusetts State Environmental Police will be investigating.
