Newly-awarded bronze medalist Ana Bărbosu sympathizes with American Jordan Chiles after medal ruling

Romanian gymnast Ana Barbos won the bronze medal on Friday, officially taking third place in the women’s floor exercise final at the Paris Olympics after a lengthy deliberation.

She received her medal nearly two weeks after it was stripped from her at the stadium and she burst into tears.

Eleven days ago, when the gymnastics competition at the Paris Olympics ended, Jordan Childs was holding her medal and she and her teammates went home thinking they’d won bronze, their first individual Olympic medals.

But she was able to win the medal in part because of a successful appeal by the U.S. coaching staff after the final score in the floor exercise final.

Barbos believed she had won a medal after Chile’s first score was announced. She was holding a Romanian flag, looked up and noticed the score change on the board, then dropped it, covered her face with her hands and walked out in tears.

Barbos sympathized with her Chile and Romania teammate Sabrina Maneca-Boinea, whose team dropped from fifth to fourth place after a scoring change was overturned.

“I can’t help but think about Sabrina and Jordan right now,” Barbos said. It said in a statement“It is a difficult situation for us, with a lot of uncertainty and overwhelming emotions. I hope everyone understands that we have done nothing wrong with the Olympics and that the Olympic spirit is more important than any misunderstanding between the authorities.”

“I want to believe that one day all three of us will be able to win a bronze medal.”

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the tournament’s review committee improperly authorized the investigation. Chiliz’s score increases On August 10, the court ruled that the appeal should not have been allowed because it was filed after the one-minute deadline for investigation.

Chiles posted a lengthy statement on social media on Thursday confirming that her medal had been returned and that her appeal against the revocation had failed.

“I am at a loss for words,” Chiles said. “This decision is unjust and a huge blow not only to me but to everyone who has supported me along my journey. What’s even more heartbreaking is the unprovoked racist attacks on social media that are wrong and extremely hurtful. I have given my life to this sport and am proud to represent my culture and country.”
