The former co-host, who hosted alongside longtime host Tom Bergeron from 2010 to 2012, is not the only former “DWTS” host to have cancer.
In 2022, former professional player Witney Carson opened up about how she nearly missed out on a “dream” opportunity in 2014 when she found out she’d been diagnosed with melanoma, a type of skin cancer, just weeks before she was scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles.

“DWTS” alum Witney Carson spoke about her 2022 cancer diagnosis.
“I finally got this call that was going to supercharge my career,” she told People magazine at the time. “It was a dream come true.”
“All of a sudden, I was diagnosed with melanoma, and of course, for me, I was like, ‘OK, I can still be on the show,'” she said of her season co-starring with Cody Simpson.
The “DWTS” vet said she was “embarrassed” to reveal her diagnosis because she wanted people to think she was healthy.

Carson was diagnosed with malignant melanoma.
“I think the only thing I was embarrassed about was the fact that I’m an athlete and I should be healthy and in shape. I was doing all the right things as an athlete, and I felt embarrassed to say, ‘Yes, I was sick. I was really sick,'” she said. “The producers didn’t know. My partner didn’t know. I wanted people to think I was perfectly healthy.”
Carson, who was diagnosed with skin cancer at age 19 and believes it may have been caused by using tanning beds in high school, said her parents are both melanoma survivors. Heredity influences melanoma.
