Experts have spoken out after a woman was turned away from a job interview for wearing shorts, leaving more people questioning why the staple garment is “inappropriate” for work.
Earlier this week, Ms Tyreshia, who posts under the handle @mtyreshiadaily, revealed that she was told to “get changed” after turning up to the interview wearing black shorts, a white top and a lightweight cardigan.
“I can’t believe the recruiter asked me to come back after changing into my interview clothes.” she captioned the video..
“I look so tidy and professional so no thanks!” she added, adding the hashtags #jobhunting, #fyp and #viral.
In a video posted to TikTok, Tiresia is standing facing the camera with her arms crossed.
“Recruiters rejected me because of this,” she wrote alongside the video, along with a red exclamation point emoji.
Tiresia then tells viewers that during her job interview, there was a “dress code” and the recruiter asked her if she wanted to go home and come back changed, then rescheduled the interview for the following day.
“I was like, ‘no,'” she says, before beginning to show off the outfit to the cameras with a bemused look on her face.
But while Tiresia couldn’t understand what was wrong with her outfit, the internet quickly picked up on it, with most of it siding with the recruiter.
“I don’t understand what you don’t understand,” one person said in a comment that received more than 130,000 likes.
“The fact that HR here allowed me to make changes and redo things says a lot. Here, it would have been rejected straight away,” another employee said.
One person said: “It’s insane to wear shorts to an interview.”
“That’s a wild outfit,” mused another.

Australia’s star stylist, Donny Galellasaid there are good reasons why the clothing is not appropriate for the office.
“Shorts are never appropriate for a job interview, especially if they’re that short,” he told news.com.au.
“In some industries, like fitness, if you’re a personal trainer at a gym, you might not get penalized.
“But overall, I don’t think shorts are appropriate to wear in a corporate environment.”
Many people agree, suggesting there’s a generational gap in what is acceptable interview attire.
“Schools really need to bring back career days and career prep classes,” one user stressed.
“We’ve officially reached the age where we can say this generation is wild,” another wrote.
“Yeah I’m kind of a baby boomer… but when and why are shorts (any length) appropriate for a job interview?” another viewer questioned.
Meanwhile, others shared their own videos and slammed Tiresia for being too clueless about her choice of outfit.
Tiresia has yet to comment on the criticism or provide an update on how her rescheduled job interview went.
But her video has so far garnered nearly 3.5 million views and nearly 40,000 comments since it was posted on Thursday.
The only question that remains is what will she wear the next day?
