A Georgia sheriff was killed in an apparent “ambush” Saturday night while responding to a call of a domestic dispute.
Paulding County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Cunningham, 30, died of his injuries at a hospital Saturday after the incident in Hiram, Georgia, Sheriff Gary Gulledge told reporters. Fox 5 Atlanta.
“He was a great deputy sheriff and a good young man,” the sheriff said.
Mr Cunningham is survived by two children.

According to the sheriff’s office, just before 6:15 p.m. Saturday, two deputies responded to a home on Foggy Creek Lane and were hit by gunfire as soon as they opened their patrol car doors. Additional deputies arrived on scene shortly thereafter and also encountered gunfire from the home.
Cunningham was shot during the incident and was rushed to a local hospital where he ultimately died.
“It appears our officers were ambushed,” Maj. Ashley Henson with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office told reporters.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the sheriff’s office said investigators learned a woman was found with a gunshot wound after leaving the home and returning, and was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
A SWAT team then entered the home and pronounced the man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the incident.
