People ‘Reading Too Much’ into Specifics of Harris Price-Gouging Plan

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that people are “reading too much into” the details of Harris’ price-gouging plan.

“I think people are reading too much into the information that’s being put out there,” Whitmer said. “We know Governor Kamala Harris will be focused on building more affordable housing. We know Governor Kamala Harris has already committed to making health care more accessible and affordable for the American people and protecting Obamacare.”

She continued, “I think it speaks to Kamala Harris’ values that she wants consumers to keep more money in their pockets. She wants to make sure that hardworking Americans can succeed. She wants to make sure that there is corporate responsibility. We know that we need business to grow in this country, small businesses to grow for good paying jobs, large businesses to grow. But we also know that we can’t exploit and hurt the American consumer just to increase profits. And I think there’s a balance there.”

Gov. Whitmer added, “Any effort that we make to keep more money in Americans’ pockets, I think it’s worth walking that path, having that conversation, and figuring out how to make this economy work for everybody.”
