Violent anti-Israel protests began in Chicago on Sunday on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, with demonstrators disrupting a delegate party and some warning: “Welcome to hell week.”
Protesters were impatient to confront Democratic Party leaders over the Gaza war, with hundreds gathering in the streets and vowing to “bring the war home,” according to footage on social media.
Demonstrations are expected throughout the week as national Democrats celebrate the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz, 60.
At one point, protesters targeted a delegate party at Navy Pier, with one of the agitators taking to the stage, grabbing the microphone and accusing the crowd of “funding genocide.” According to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“The Harris-Biden administration continues to send money to Israel,” the protester said before being dragged off the stage. According to a video posted by an anti-Israel group“Liberate Palestine!”
Others reportedly rallied outside the event, warning of a “week of justice.”
One of the organizers, who gave his name only as Jinan, said the disruptors had gathered to confront Democrats over Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
“Welcome to hell week,” she said, according to the Sun-Times.
“Democrats go home,” protesters chanted, waving Palestinian flags. To a reporter for The Blades. “Otherwise we will bring the war home.”
Others at Sunday’s protest also called for stronger abortion and LGBTG rights, according to reports.
“She is not taking a legitimate position, so we have to make a legitimate effort to win the Arab and Muslim votes until Kamala Harris comes to the negotiating table and makes legitimate concessions,” protester Nayel said. According to ABC 7 Chicago.
“You can’t just rate things or give high-level outlines to get our votes.”

As the protest ended on Sunday night, some protesters chanted “from the river to the sea.” According to a Sun-Times reporter The Anti-Defamation League has denounced it as a call for the destruction of Israel.
Large protests are expected to continue on Monday in Chicago’s Union Park as the rally takes place about 10 minutes away.
