Aaron Judge chose not to directly respond to a Staten Island Little League coach who made a bizarre comment about not spending enough time with his players during the Yankees’ appearance in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
“I don’t care about the comments at all,” Judge said Wednesday. “I play in front of 40,000 fans every night and I’m 0-for-1 and I get booed.”
His response was sparked by South Shore Little League coach Bob Laterza saying, “You’re a big player. Sil Eve When the Yankees lost to Detroit, Judge reportedly did not interact with players when they called out to him from the stands.
“Why not turn around and wave to New York and to the kids who think you’re a hero,” Laterza told the site, “because they’re the ones who pay your salary.”
Judge, along with many other Yankees players, spent time with Little League players from around the country, while others took part in pre-scheduled sessions with the Staten Island team.
Judge said he learned of Laterza’s comments Tuesday.
“I’m not going to answer to him because it’s about the kids,” Judge said. “That’s what it’s all about. We got the opportunity to spend a lot of time with a lot of kids in Williamsport and make some great memories and have a great time at the game. That’s what I want to focus on, aside from the loss.”
