Teamsters boss suggests Democratic convention snubbed him to protect 'corporate elitists'

Sean O’Brien, President of the International Brotherhood of Track Stars He implied that it wasn’t. In an interview on Wednesday, Trump said he wasn’t allowed to speak at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) because of “corporate elitists.”

“Both parties … I’ve talked about the corporate elites, I’ve talked about the Ubers and Lyfts of the world, I’ve talked about Amazon. [Republican National Convention (RNC)]” O’Brien told Fox News host Neil Cavuto.

“Well, they’re the big donor class for the RNC, but they’re also the big donor class for the DNC,” O’Brien continued, “and they have ties to the DNC, and maybe they didn’t want me to speak there, because if I spoke to that same group, I would be exposing the same corporate elites that are attacking us every day.”

In an interview with Fox News, O’Brien said Democrats had “not yet” decided whether he would be allowed to speak at the convention.

Last month, Mr. O’Brien spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. After the speech, John Palmer, vice president of the Teamsters Union, issued a challenge to Mr. O’Brien. In a letter, Mr. Palmer cited several reasons why Mr. O’Brien is not fit for the position, including that union members may fear retaliation.

“All of this led to him attending an anti-union, anti-labor Republican National Convention, kissing the ring of the man who broke up a strike, not paying his workers, discriminating against people of color as a landlord, falsely accusing five black New York men of murder, orchestrating an insurrection against the United States, evading the draft, and appointing union busters from the law firm Jones Day to create the most anti-union labor committee in history,” Palmer writes.

The Hill reported last week that the Teamsters said Vice President Harris’ campaign had agreed to participate in a roundtable discussion with members of one of the largest labor unions in the United States.

“We look forward to Vice President Harris joining the Teamsters rank-and-file membership in a roundtable discussion to discuss issues important to workers,” Teamsters Deputy Director of Communications Kara Dennis previously said.

The Hill has reached out to the Republican National Committee, the Democratic National Committee, Uber, Lyft and Amazon for comment.
