Speculation is growing that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. might announce on Friday that he is dropping out of the race to support Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Kennedy’s plans to use a campaign speech on Friday to highlight the “path ahead” come after his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, said the pair were considering dropping out of the race.

“We have two options on the table: either we stay and start a new party, but we run the risk of Kamala Harris and Walz becoming president to get votes from Trump,” Shanahan said. “Or we leave now and align ourselves with Donald Trump.”

Kennedy’s campaign announced he would hold an event in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, spurring speculation that he might formally endorse Trump, who will be in the city for another event the same day.

Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), also spoke out about ongoing discussions between the two sides.

“I’ve never spoken to RFK personally, but I know there’s been a lot of communication between RFK and the campaign and this campaign,” Vance said. “What we’ve made to RFK, and of course he’s not out of the race yet, what we’re making here is that if you want a Democratic party that protects American workers, that advocates for strong borders, that disagrees with Republicans on tax policy and so on, that party is no longer there.”

Trump CNN Asked Tuesday whether Kennedy would consider a cabinet post if he supported Trump, he said, “I probably would. I like John a lot. I have a lot of respect for him.”

Shanahan said the Kennedy campaign has been thwarted at every turn by Democrats trying to remove him from the ballot.

“I have to say that Clear Choice, this DNC-aligned PAC that was created specifically to get rid of us, spent millions of dollars to get rid of us,” Shanahan said. “We wanted to win, we wanted a fair chance, and the DNC made it impossible for us to do that.”

Shanahan continues to criticize the Democrats’ unethical tactics in his Twitter posts.

“While Trump has fought six legal battles this election, we are fighting nine more across the country. By filing these lawsuits against their political opponents, Democrats are undermining the foundations of our democracy. What they see as a formula for winning elections is a ‘normalcy’ that will lead to famine, disease and civil war. The country is longing for an administration that represents unity,” she wrote.

Kennedy also criticized the Democratic Party for switching over to Kamala Harris after ousting Joe Biden, saying the self-described “pro-abortion” and “pro-democracy” party doesn’t see the need for primaries or an open ballot process.

“She’s gone from being the Democratic Party’s biggest liability to being like the Second Coming of Christ in the space of four weeks without giving any interviews, without attending any debates, without having a single policy that everyone doesn’t think is ridiculous,” he said. “This is not democracy.”
