CNN senior political commentator Van Jones said on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, has a “fierce sense of patriotism.”
“It’s like the difference between what’s called cheap patriotism and deeper patriotism. This is deeper patriotism, not raw patriotism. They’re arguing that the value of freedom is not just the freedom to not pay taxes or the freedom to say get out of my yard, but the freedom to live a full life. And to live a full life, we need each other and we need government,” Jones said.
He continued, “I’ve never seen so many American signs. There’s a strong sense of patriotism about Kamala Harris. She wants to fight. She said, ‘I believe in this country, I believe in this vision of freedom, and we’re going to fight for it.’ It’s an interesting and new conversation that I haven’t seen before.”
Jones added: “I feel that the idea of the future is far more important than the past. There is a nostalgia for a kinder country, but there is also a determination to go.”
