Bill lived his whole life in Paterson and had an unwavering love for the city where he was born, raised and served. He dedicated his life to our great nation, America, and now he rests in peace.
Pascrill had reportedly been hospitalized for more than three weeks with a respiratory condition, and at one point required “respiratory support,” staff said.

Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey’s third-largest city, Pascrill joined what NBC News called the “wild” world of New Jersey politics in the 1970s and rose to become a member of Congress in 1996. For a time, he served as both a congressman and mayor of Paterson, which the outlet claims was “common” in New Jersey at the time.
At the time of his death, Pascrill was seeking his 15th term in the House of Representatives. Because his death came more than 70 days before Election Day, Democratic county committee members were able to select an interim replacement who would ostensibly face off against incumbent Republican candidate Billy Prempe in November.
Pascrill is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Elsie Marie Bott, three children and five grandchildren.
Pascrill is not the only current New Jersey member of Congress to die this year: In April, fellow Democrat Rep. Donald Payne Jr. died of a heart attack believed to have been caused by diabetes and high blood pressure.
In Mr. Payne’s former district Special Election A meeting to choose Payne’s successor will be held on Sept. 8. Newark City Council President LaMonica McIver, a Democrat, is overwhelmingly favored over Republican candidate Carmen Bucco.
The winner of this election will have to defend their seat again in about eight weeks.
