Scottie Scheffler says he’s “fine,” no injury sustained at BMW Championship

Scottie Scheffler stood in the fairway of the par-5 17th hole with a five-iron in hand, aiming for another birdie on the penultimate hole of the BMW Championship.

But right after the swing, Scheffler grabbed her waist. It’s something Tiger Woods has done far too often over the past decade. Of course, Scheffler’s stellar season has led many to draw comparisons to Tiger, but those similarities are more due to his impressive wins than because of injuries.

Still, Scheffler says he’s OK.

“Yes, it’s fine,” Scheffler said.

“I woke up this morning with a little bit of pain. It just wouldn’t let up. It was a little tight, so I just couldn’t hit it well and I struggled to hit the ball most of the day. I tried to hit a high draw on the 17th, which is a shot that requires a lot of rotation and movement. I felt a little bit of pain, but other than that I was OK.”

Scheffler added later that there was nothing special going on regarding his recovery Thursday night.

“Maybe I hit the ball too much yesterday or something,” Scheffler added.

“It’s just a little sore. I think it’ll be okay if you put some ice on it. [on Friday].”

The world number one made par on the 17th hole, a disappointing score considering it’s one of the easiest holes on the course, and he couldn’t get up and down from the front of the green, where he placed his 5-iron, about 30 yards short of the hole.

Scheffler then missed a 9-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to finish with a 1-under 69.

He is five strokes behind 2025 Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who started with a 6-under 66 after the first day.
