Starting today, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is available to stream on Max. Horizon is, of course, the first in a four-part Western series starring Kevin Costner, who in addition to starring in the film, also created, wrote, produced and directed the project, which follows family, friends and enemies in the Old West as the Civil War rages.

It’s been a long journey: Horizon was first commissioned as a standalone film in 1988, and since then, it has become Costner’s passion project and ultimately contributed to his controversial departure from the series ahead of season 5B.

Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 was originally scheduled for release on August 16, 2024, but was removed from the release schedule due to the poor box office performance of Chapter 1. Instead, the film will premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 7, 2024, followed by a general release in late 2024.
