A total of 67,978 asylum applications were approved by the Ministry of Interior from January to June this year, more than three times as many as last year, authorities said on Thursday.
According to data from the Ministry of Interior: The Daily TelegraphForeigners who arrived by boat across the Channel in the year to June 2023 accounted for more than a third of those accepted, some 35,176 people, more than four times as many as those who arrived by land, compared with just 7,888 people.
“Home Office caseworkers have made just under 92,000 first decisions on asylum claims this year, the highest level in 20 years,” the outlet reported. “Of those, 58% were granted refugee status or another form of humanitarian protection, down from 71% in the year to June 2023, when the Conservatives tightened the rules. Before the pandemic, the ‘success rate’ – the proportion of asylum claims that result in refugee status at an early stage – was around one-third.”
The number of approvals has soared since the fast track scheme was introduced, with the number of caseworkers making decisions said to have tripled. The scheme was introduced to speed up the process as Rishi Sunak rushes to fulfil his pledge to “abolish” lists.
Meanwhile, under Keir Starmer’s New Left Labour government, the number of migrants being granted asylum is on the rise and shows no signs of stopping.
Moreover, Starmer’s ability to “stop the boats” has been called into question after more than 3,000 illegal immigrants have crossed the English Channel from France since the new government came to power. Breitbart News It was reported in July.
Mr Starmer said his government would “destroy the gangs” involved in human trafficking and the current wave of illegal immigration, mainly among young people.
