The Force was not with “Acolyte.”
The Star Wars series, considered “woke” by many online fans, was recently canceled after just one season, much to the surprise of some of its cast members.
Lee Jung-jae, who played Master Seol on the Disney+ show, responded to the show’s cancellation in an interview: Entertainment Weekly on friday.
“I was personally quite surprised when I heard the news,” Jeongjae, 51, said.
Created by Leslye Headland, “Acolyte” is set during the Republic era and follows a serial murder investigation that brings a Jedi Master (John Jay) and his former apprentice (Amandla Stenberg) face off against an evil force long thought to be extinct in the galaxy.
Jungjae said that although his character was killed off in the final episode of season 1, he hopes the show will be revived in season 2.
“If there was a second season, I probably wouldn’t be doing it,” the Korean actor told EW, “but personally, I really liked Leslie’s script. I thought she was a fantastic writer and director, with a gift for storytelling, but also a gift for creating characters and creating meaningful structures within a story.”
“So I was personally really looking forward to seeing season two with her at the helm,” he added.
The “Squid Game” star added, “I’m hopeful that maybe there will be some changes in the future, to be honest with you, because you never know what’s going to happen. So personally, I’m really hoping that we’ll see more of Leslie’s storyline in season 2.”
Manny Jacinto, who plays Kimireel, responded to the news of the cancellation on Instagram. Post the last shot A photo of him and Stenberg, 25, holding hands.
Jacinto, 37, used a simple red heart emoji in the caption.
Headland, 44, suggested that “Acolyte” may not return for a second season. He told EW Last month, she said she hadn’t heard anything about the show’s renewal.
The eight-episode series has faced fierce backlash online over its progressive themes, with many fans accusing parts of the show of containing blatant LGBTQ propaganda.

“I don’t think I create queer (capital Q) content,” she said.
Headland continued, “I’m proud to be a gay woman who has achieved this feat. Of course, I don’t want to dismiss any queerness in the show if people say my content is queer. I’m proud to have created something that inspires queer people.”
“Honestly, I’m sad that people think that if something is gay, it’s a bad thing,” she said. “I’m sad that a bunch of people on the internet would somehow destroy what I consider to be the most important piece of art I’ve ever created.”
