This Election Could ‘Kill’ MAGA Strain of Republican Party

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that the MAGA wing of the Republican Party could be “erased” in the November election.

“America wants a new chapter. America is ready for a better story, a new chapter. She’s the sitting vice president. Democrats have controlled the White House for 12 of the last 16 years. How can Democrats talk about a new chapter? You turn the page, you write the book,” host Jake Tapper said.

Booker said, “Jake, you know that’s not true, because the politics I see right now are MAGA Republicans in Congress killing any kind of real policy that we need to get done. On the most contentious issues, bipartisan agreements were put together by Senator Lankford, a right-wing Republican, and Chris Murphy, a blue-state Democrat. And it wasn’t smart Republicans who killed that agreement, who actually killed real progress, but the influence of people who have kowtowed to Donald Trump, whose influence is so enormous and so incredible, that Trump has appointed three justices to the Supreme Court who are now rolling back our most fundamental rights and freedoms, like bodily autonomy and reproductive rights.”

“So it would be wrong to say that MAGA Republicans haven’t still undermined common sense, pragmatic, sensible politics, and I think this election will finally help put an end to that trend in the Republican Party and allow a pragmatic Republican Party to return,” he added.
