‘We Have a Crisis at the Border’

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that the US faces a “border crisis” that needs to be addressed with immigration reform.

“On immigration, when Harris ran for the Democratic nomination in 2020 against you and others, she said she supported decriminalizing illegal border crossings. She even suggested she would be in favor of abolishing ICE. Of course, now, at least in rhetoric, she’s taken a much tougher stance on border security,” host Jonathan Karl said.

He asked, “What do you think about her change on this issue?”

Sander said, “I don’t think this is about change. We have a crisis at the border. We have to stop fentanyl from coming into this country. We have to crack down on illegal immigration, but what we need is comprehensive immigration reform. God knows how many young people we have in this country who deserve citizenship as a result of DACA. We need skilled workers in this country. We need workers. We have a serious labor shortage across America and immigrants can play a key role. So it’s obviously the right thing to do to stop illegal immigration. But we need comprehensive immigration reform and I think the vice president supports that.”
