Kerry Kennedy, daughter of the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, said on MSNBC’s “Inside” on Sunday that her brother’s decision to drop his independent presidential bid in favor of former President Donald Trump was “kind of rekindling my father’s memory.”
“Why do you feel like you have to speak out at this moment?” host Jen Psaki asked.
“The stakes in the November election truly couldn’t be higher, which is why my entire family is committed to the re-election of Kamala Harris and Coach Waltz,” Kennedy said. “They are defenders of the values that my family has fought for for so many years. Donald Trump is the exact opposite. He is a threat to our most fundamental freedoms, at the core of who we are as Americans.”
She continued, “A woman’s right to control her own body. The right to live in safe communities free of gun violence. The right to love herself. And I believe that the real Robert Kennedy, if my father were alive, would have hated almost everything that Trump stands for: his lies, his selfishness, his anger, his cynicism, his hatred, his racism, his fascist sympathies, his deliberate misinformation about vaccines, his felony convictions. My father was Attorney General of the United States.”
Kennedy also said, “The rape of E. Jean Carroll; the contempt for the poor and suffering; the contempt for ethics, democracy and healing; the callous mockery of the human rights of those who suffer in America and around the world — these are causes that the real Robert Kennedy loved passionately. So I am outraged and disgusted by my brother’s ostentatious and obscene support of Donald Trump, and I completely disown, distance myself and disassociate myself from Robert Kennedy Jr. and his egregious and inexplicable attempts to desecrate, trample and burn the memory of my father.”
