Matt Barnes’ son needs emergency surgery after getting hit by car

Former NBA champion Matt Barnes said his son, Isaiah Barnes, was hit by a car while jogging last Wednesday and required emergency surgery for an appendectomy on Friday.

Barnes, 44, shared a photo on Instagram of Isaiah giving the middle finger in his hospital bed.

“My kids have had a rough week. They were hit by a car on Wednesday while out jogging 🤦🏽‍♂️ They had terrible stomach pains on Friday, tried to finish the Mamba Invitational, couldn’t sleep Friday night and couldn’t move yesterday so finally decided to tell their mom and me,” Barnes wrote on Sunday.

“We rushed him to the emergency room for emergency appendix surgery. The doctor said it was the biggest non-ruptured appendix he’d ever seen 🙏🏽.”

Barnes posted another video showing Isaiah being reunited with his twin brother, Carter Barnes, after appendix surgery.

In the video, Isaiah is seen lifting his shirt to show the scars after a long hug.

The brothers were teammates on the Encino Crespi High School basketball team.

Isaiah announced in an Instagram Story post on Sunday that he had been released from the hospital.

“It’s been a rough week,” he wrote on his Instagram Story, adding a sad face emoji.

Barnes is raising twins with his ex-wife. Gloria Govanmarried Barnes’ former Lakers teammate, Derek Fisher, in July 2021.

Burns also thanked the medical team at UCLA for caring for his son.

Govan also shared a picture of Isaiah standing next to his hospital bed as a nurse treated him.

Many people, including Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders and ESPN personality Ryan Clark, sent well wishes and prayers.

Barnes filed for divorce from Govan, a former “Basketball Wives LA” star, in January 2015, according to Los Angeles court records.

The former NBA champion made headlines a few months later when he got into a heated argument with Fisher after learning of her romantic relationship with Govan.

In October 2015, The Washington Post exclusively reported that Barnes, then with the Grizzlies, had suddenly left the team’s California training camp and driven 95 miles to “bang” Fisher after learning of his romantic relationship with Govan.

Burns said in 2021 that he and Fisher had “reconciled” and were focusing on co-parenting their twins.
