Former President Donald Trump said he is considering not participating in the upcoming debate with Vice President Kamala Harris following ABC News’ “biased” interview with Republican Sen. Tom Cotton.
The former president attacked ABC News in a Truth Social post late Sunday, criticizing the Sunday edition of “This Week” panel and co-host John Karl’s interview with the Arkansas senator.
“I watched ABC Fake News this morning. I saw the ridiculously biased interview with Tom Cotton (great reporter!) by flippant reporter Jonathan Karl(?) and the so-called Trump haters panel. Now I ask myself why I should be doing a debate with Kamala Harris on that network,” Trump wrote.
During the heated interview, Kahl pressed Cotton about President Trump’s recent comments that the Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom, the United States’ highest military awards for bravery in combat, are “equal” or “far superior.”
“John, you’re taking this completely out of context. Donald Trump has been great for our military. He’s been great for our veterans,” Cotton shot back.
Trump continued his rant, alluding to other issues at the network, including the scandal involving ABC News contributor Donna Brazile, who allegedly leaked debate questions to Hillary Clinton’s campaign during the 2016 election.
“Will panelist Donna Brazile question the Marxist candidate like she did with the evil Hillary Clinton? Will Kamala’s best friend at the head of ABC do the same? Where is Liddle’s George Slopadopolos now? Will he be involved?” Trump wrote, referring to “This Week” main host George Stephanopoulos.
Trump continued to express doubts about Harris’ choice to ask ABC News to host the debate before considering other major networks, including her preference for Fox News.
“They have so many questions to answer!!!” Trump wrote. “Why did Ms. Harris reject Fox, NBC, CBS and even CNN? Take notice!!!” he wrote.
Despite his misgivings, Trump agreed to take part in the ABC News debate while Biden was still on the campaign trail.
When Harris was nominated to replace Biden in the presidential election, Trump again raised questions about her participation in the debate.
The ABC News debate between Trump and Harris is scheduled for September 10.
