NBC News unsuccessfully tried to get vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance to justify the Democratic Party’s “family separation” talking point in the hopes that he would strike a blow against President Donald Trump’s pledge to deport illegal immigrants.
But host Kristen Welker ignored the reality that President Joe Biden’s administration has failed to enforce border laws since 2021 and has permanently separated at least 5,000 dead migrants from their families.
Thousands of migrants have died in floods, blizzards, accidents, banditry and storms in jungles, oceans, rivers and work sites. This staggering death toll has led to thousands of parents and children, children and parents, being permanently separated, all because Biden dangled an offer of entry into American society.
But NBC host Kristen Welker Ignored Biden pressed Vance to promise that illegal immigrants would not be separated from their children when adults are jailed for border violations, leading to mass separations.
Are you going to separate families as part of the mass deportations? … Let me ask you this fundamental question: Will families be separated in a mass deportation? … A lot of people want to know the answer to this: Will families be separated in a mass deportation policy?
Vance dodged Welken’s questions and denied using parts of the video in Democratic attack ads.
Kamala Harris is saying that Donald Trump wants to tear families apart. Kamala Harris’ policies are leading to thousands of immigrant children living with sex traffickers and drug cartels. That’s the result of her policies…
There was zero tolerance. [border enforcement] The policies under the Trump administration have resulted in fewer family separations than Kamala Harris’ border policies, which is very striking. Actually securing the border is the most humane thing to do for children and, of course, for the American people.
“But I don’t hear any denial about families being separated,” Welken complained.
“Kristen, I would say the root cause of migration is Kamala Harris’ refusal to do her job as a border agent,” Vance said.
Democratic nominee Kamala Harris “ran away” from Biden’s calls for her to take a central role on the migration crisis, according to an administration official who spoke to Axios.com.

Welken added: comment After losing the interview with Vance, she said:
Regarding Senator Vance’s claims about family separation: Numbers show that the Trump Administration has separated over 5,500 families, most of them under the zero tolerance policy. According to the Department of Homeland Security, up to 1,000 children are currently being separated from their families.
Even if 1,000 children and teenagers remain separated from their illegal immigrant parents in a world connected by cell phones, the damage is small compared with the deaths of the thousands of migrants hanging over Biden’s welcome.
Here’s a rundown of the massive death toll caused by Biden and Harris’ decision to give pro-immigration Border Commissioner Alejandro Mayorkas the go-ahead to admit millions of economic migrants.
In April 2024, Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, reported:
During the tenure of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas, the number of migrants attempting to cross the border illegally who died en route to the United States or at the border nearly doubled from an average of about 700 per year in fiscal years 2017-2020 to an average of about 1,300 per year in fiscal years 2021-2023, according to the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The average death rate is 1,300, bringing the number of migrants who have died since January 2021 to 4,000.
For example, Biden’s 2022 death toll includes 895 bodies found in deserts, mountains and rivers, 96 people who died while crossing the border and 55 people who died while being tracked, pursued, processed or detained by Border Patrol, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Many immigrants are killed in American workplaces, in part because they are often untrained and easily replaced.

In December 2023, the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report stating that “foreign-born Hispanic or Latino workers accounted for 63.5% (792 deaths) of the total deaths among Hispanic or Latino workers (1,248 deaths).” [in 2022] … 316 deaths in the construction industry [or 40 percent] He was one of 792 foreign-born Hispanic or Latino workers who died in 2022.
Some of the migrants who died had been handed over to federal agencies by labor exploitation operators through a program that cares for “unaccompanied alien children” who arrive at the border.
The federal government, in part because of the Kamala Harris Amendment, has little oversight of the program, leaving hundreds of thousands of people unsupervised and likely working in dangerous or illegal jobs far from their families.
In February 2023, New York TimeAt least 12 UAC youth were reported to have died in the workplace.
“The fatalities included a 14-year-old food delivery man who was hit by a car while riding his bicycle through an intersection in Brooklyn, a 16-year-old boy who was crushed by a 35-ton tractor scraper in suburban Atlanta and a 15-year-old boy who fell 50 feet off a roof in Alabama while laying shingles,” the shocking news story said. February 25th Reporttitled “Alone and exploited, immigrant children work backbreaking jobs across the U.S.”
“No one can deny the fact that countless people are harmed on their journey to the United States. [or] “Human trafficking and enslavement took place in the United States,” attorney Gene Hamilton said. Public Hearing on March 7, 2024He added:
So the crocodile tears that are shed [by Democrats] No one cares about what happened with prosecutorial policies under the Trump administration, but no one cares about the 85,000+ children this administration lost. [from official records, among] Half a million children have been trafficked under this administration.
In August 2024, a Department of Homeland Security inspector general report said Mayorkas was responsible for 320,000 missing migrant youths, not just the 85,000 cited by Hamilton, who are now “at risk of trafficking, exploitation, and forced labor,” the report said.

Additional migrants have been killed by other migrants brought into the U.S. by Mayorkas.
For example, in June 2024, John Moises Chacaguasay Irbis, a 21-year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuador, was arrested in Syracuse, New York. Charged He is charged with the second-degree murder of a 21-year-old woman who also emigrated from Ecuador.
In August 2023, Breitbart reported:
Last week, Pasadena police arrested an 18-year-old [Guatemalan migrant] Juan Carlos Garcia Rodriguez, accused of rape [11-year-old Guatemalan migrant] Maria Gonzalez allegedly strangled her, stuffed her body in a laundry basket and hid it under her bed.
Many migrants die at sea, in jungles and deserts and are not counted in the U.S. report. In January 2022, a migrant boat sank with just one survivor.
Juan Esteban said that despite being promised that the boat would not be overcrowded, at least 35 people were on board, including men and women from Haiti, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Only one person on board spoke Spanish; one woman was holding a baby girl. Organizers had not provided life jackets.
“It didn’t seem like a good idea to me,” said Juan Esteban, his skin dark from days in the sun, “but I really wanted to go to the country.”
The engine failed and the ship sank in rough seas. post Report:
Initially, about 15 people survived. [Estaban] “We’re going to have to go,” they said, and for a while they all clung to the upturned boat, feeling warmer in the water than on the hull exposed to the cold air. Two of the smugglers put on life jackets and were rescued by another boat, according to Juan Esteban’s lawyer. They promised to come back, but never did.
Esteban’s sister, Maria Camila, was killed on the trip to welcome Mayorkas.

of The Wall Street Journal In September 2021, one death out of thousands was reported in the Darien Valley in the Central American jungle.
Santim said he walked ahead to see if he could gather food for his sister, who was feeling dizzy and lagging behind. Later, at a migrant camp in Panama, his companion told him that Jenny had fainted and stopped breathing, forcing her to stay behind.
“I don’t know how to tell my father that my sister is dead,” Santime said, sitting in an indigenous village in Panama, as he planned to continue his journey.
So many people died in the Darien Valley that Mayorkas was secretly funding the opening of a bypass route while declaring the U.S. border safe. In February 2023, one of Mayorkas’ buses crashed, reportedly killing more than 30 people.
“Two images of the perilous journey north haunted him.” Albinson Linares From Telemundo.com said The story is about Johan Torres, a 2023 immigrant from Venezuela.
The first one is, [migrant] A man was killed with a machete in Mexico while resisting a robber, and another was killed in the jungle after witnessing a man abandon his young daughter waist-deep in mud.
“He made her lie in the mud and left her there crying. I was so exhausted I was dying so there was nothing I could do, but I’ll never forget it,” he said, tears in his eyes.
“Because Joe Biden told migrants to swarm the border and get into our country, they died on the way here,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Public Hearing on March 7, 2024 “What’s the solution? Call a timeout. I don’t think there’s anything more to be said,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jordan.
While established media sites have reported on some of these deaths, most of the reporting has been done at a time and in a place that prevents most Americans from knowing about the massive death toll under the Harris administration, which Welken and her well-endowed colleagues are unwilling to discuss.
