90% of Hezbollah Rockets Fired from Civilian Areas in Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Monday that 90 percent of the Hezbollah rockets it intercepted on Sunday were fired from civilian areas in southern Lebanon, a further violation of international law by the Iran-backed terrorist organization.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement:

Early Sunday morning, after detecting Hezbollah preparing to fire missiles and rockets at northern and central Israel, the IDF struck Hezbollah targets that posed an immediate threat.

During the attack, approximately 230 rounds were fired and 20 aerial targets were identified that entered Israeli territory.

The Hezbollah terrorist organization has been deploying its terrorist missiles in the midst of civilians, using Lebanese civilians as human shields. 90% of the launches have come from the heart of civilian areas, close to civilian facilities such as mosques, schools and UN facilities.

Both Hezbollah and the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas follow the practice of hiding their weapons among civilians because Israeli attacks on their weapons facilities would result in civilian casualties that would be attributed to Israel, but deliberately exposing civilians to enemy fire is a terrorist violation of international humanitarian law.

Prior to the terrorist attack, Israel launched a preemptive strike targeting thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers. One of the Hezbollah targets was reportedly in Tel Aviv. Hezbollah was seeking to avenge the death of its deputy commander, Fuad Shukr, who was killed by Israel last month. Shukr was also involved in the 1983 bombing of a US Marine barracks, killing 241 US soldiers.

Hezbollah’s presence in southern Lebanon is United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 The 2006 resolution mandates the demilitarization of southern Lebanon.
