Stark difference between how Trump and Harris mark 3rd anniversary of Afghanistan withdrawal

Monday marked the third anniversary of the day when an ISIS-K suicide bomber attacked Abbey Gate during the country’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, killing 13 U.S. soldiers, wounding dozens and leaving more than 100 Afghans dead.

The military personnel killed in the terrorist attack are:

  • Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Darin T. Hoover
  • Marine Corps Sergeant Johannie Rosario Pichardo
  • Marine Corps Sergeant Nicole L. Gee
  • Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez
  • Marine Corps Cpl. Degan W. Page
  • Marine Corporal Humberto A. Sanchez
  • Marine Corps Lance Corporal David L. Espinoza
  • Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jared M. Schmitz
  • Marine Corps Lance Corporal Riley J. McCollum
  • Marine Corps Lance Corporal Dylan R. Merola
  • Marine Corps Corporal Karim M. Nikoui
  • Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Maxton W. Sobiak
  • Staff Sergeant Ryan C. Knauss

The attack was preventable, according to troops on the ground, but was just one of many missteps made by the Biden-Harris administration during the chaotic evacuation. On Monday, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris each mourned the tragic incident in different ways.

“As I said, President Biden made the courageous and right decision to end the longest war in American history.”

Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery, where some of the victims are buried, to pay tribute to the fallen along with the families of several Gold Star recipients. He and two service members injured in the attack also laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

In contrast, Harris Long statement He did not comment on the attack, but did not attend any events marking the solemn event.

“Today and every day, I mourn and honor them. I pray for their families and loved ones. My heart is broken by their pain and loss. These 13 dedicated patriots represented the very best of America, putting their beloved country and their fellow Americans above themselves and putting themselves in danger to keep their fellow citizens safe,” Harris said.

Harris also justified how her administration ended the longest war in U.S. history.

“As I said, President Biden has made the courageous and right decision to end the longest war in American history. Over the past three years, our Administration has demonstrated that we can eliminate terrorists, including the leaders of al Qaeda and ISIS, without sending troops to combat zones. I will not hesitate to take all actions necessary to counter the terrorist threat and protect the American people and our homeland.”

Most of the Gold Star family members of the attack victims have expressed disgust and contempt for the way the Biden-Harris administration has handled the deaths of their loved ones.
