A hate-spewing madman called a passing Muslim a “terrorist” before punching the man in a horrific assault caught on camera in Midtown, but was eventually released without bail, police said.
At the suspect’s arraignment in Supreme Court on Monday, Manhattan prosecutors announced that David Greenblatt, 35, violently attacked Shehryar Ali Kazmi, 25, on August 5 near Rockefeller Center on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
According to Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bailey, the crazy Brooklyn weirdo appeared out of nowhere, spat on Kazmi while he was on the phone and called him a “fucking Muslim.”
When Kazmi asked Grinblatt what he was doing, he shouted more insults against Islam, before saying: “You’re a terrorist, you’re a f**king Muslim, go back to Asia,” prosecutors said.
Grinblatt then allegedly punched Kazumi, of Hewlett, Long Island, several times in the face.
Kazmi, who was recording the altercation on his cellphone, then followed the man, who was allegedly yelling Muslim hate speech, to the Fifth Avenue/53rd Street subway station, according to video obtained by The Washington Post.
Grinblatt, wearing a grey Harley Davidson hat, navy shirt and khaki shorts, appears to give Kazumi the middle finger and tell her to “suck my pussy.”
The video shows a bloody Kazmi chasing Grinblatt and demanding to know why he hit him, but Grinblatt repeatedly yells “Death to all Muslims!”, drops his bag and continues hitting Kazmi.
The weirdo fled the scene and was arrested at his home three days later, according to court documents.
According to court records, Grinblatt is charged with two counts of criminal damage in Brooklyn and was arrested on May 30 for throwing a wine bottle at a window.
He was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, a hate crime and aggravated harassment in the Aug. 5 assault.
Prosecutors said the attack left Kazumi with a bloody lip and cuts on her face.
Grinblatt has already been arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court, and although prosecutors had asked for $30,000 bail, a judge granted him supervised release.
He was then indicted and had to appear in Supreme Court to be arraigned, and prosecutors again sought to have Grinblatt held on $30,000 bail.
But Grynblatt, who has pleaded not guilty to a hate crime assault charge, was again released on supervised probation by Judge Laura Ward after his lawyer Jeffrey Bickford gave a “1,000-point” counterargument that he was “complying” with court orders after a previous hearing.
On Monday, Grinblatt, accompanied by his mother and carrying a backpack, stormed out of the hallway because he did not want to be photographed by reporters.
“Fuck you!” Grinblatt repeatedly told reporters while covering his face and giving the cameraman the middle finger.
If convicted of hate crimes, Grynblatt faces even greater penalties of up to four years in prison.
He is due to appear in court again on November 20th.
