Caitlin Clark jokes she looks ‘soft’ after watching ankle injury replay

Caitlin Clark appeared to be pretty seriously injured when she twisted her ankle in the first quarter of Monday night’s game between the Fever and the Dream. She lay on the floor in pain for a while and needed help getting back to the bench, but she quickly returned to the game and played the rest of the match.

Clark finished with 19 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, two steals and one block as the Fever defeated the Dream 87-79.

Clark, sitting alongside Fever coach Christy Sides and teammate Kelsey Mitchell at the post-game podium, said she “looked really weak” on the replay, prompting Mitchell to burst out laughing.

“Yeah, I saw the replay and it looked really weak.” Clark saysAccording to Chloe Peterson, “It wasn’t a bad turn, but it hurt. So sometimes you just have to give it a little bit of time. If you’ve ever sprained your ankle, it just hurts a little bit.”

Clarke opted to get his ankle re-taped on the sideline rather than return to the locker room.

“I was OK,” she said. “They said, ‘Do you want to go to the back?’ and I said, ‘No, just put some tape here. Let’s go. We have to keep going.’

It was an important win for the Fever, who remain in seventh place and are 2.5 games behind the Sky. Indiana started the season 3-10 but is 11-6 since June 13. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 29 points and seven rebounds. Aaliyah Boston added 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

The loss put the Dream one game out of the playoff zone with less than a month left in the regular season.
