Hundreds of Former Aides to Bush, Romney, and McCain Endorse Harris

Hundreds of former aides who worked for Republican lawmakers have endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, saying “four more years” of Trump would hurt “real, everyday” Americans.

In a letter written by USA Today ObtainedThe group included more than 200 former aides to former President George W. Bush, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). write They reunited with former staffers from former President George H.W. Bush and announced their support for Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D).

“Today, we reunite with former President George H.W. Bush alumni to reinforce our 2020 statement and jointly declare that for the first time, we will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in November,” the letter read.

The letter from the former aide comes years after hundreds of aides to Mr. Bush and Mr. McCain endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Among the signatories to the letter are David Bentley, who served as McCain's legislative aide; Tomas Bilbao, who served as HUD's deputy secretary for operations under former President George W. Bush; and Vicki Blanton, who served as Romney's campaign scheduler during the 2012 presidential election.

“Of course, we have many, and frankly many, ideological differences with Vice President Harris and Governor Walz,” the aides wrote. “That is to be expected. But any alternative is simply unacceptable.”

The aides continued in the letter:

Domestically, we are in for another four years of Donald Trump's chaotic leadership, this time focused on advancing the dangerous goals of Project 2025, which will hurt real ordinary people and undermine our sacred institutions.

Overseas, democratic movements will be irreparably endangered as President Trump and his ally, J.D. Vance, turn their backs on our allies while bowing down to dictators like Vladimir Putin.

Among those endorsing Harris was former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention saying the Republican Party was “no longer conservative.”
