Race and gender are key criteria in choosing a media personality to host Vice President Kamala Harris' first interview show since entering the presidential race, Politico Playbook reported on Monday.
The metric highlights the narrow-mindedness of Harris' worldview as she seeks to appeal to rural white voters in battleground states, a demographic political experts say could be key to winning the presidential election in 2024.
Axios reported that Harris is expected to give the interview this week as part of her campaign's strategy to ramp up efforts ahead of the post-Labor Day election, but questions remain about who she will choose to host the interview.

“Most of the people we spoke to said Harris would make her choice based on race and gender, and that she would prefer to speak to reporters who are Black and female,” Playbook said. Reported Tuesday.
Who Harris should allow to be interviewed has caused tension within the Harris campaign, The Playbook revealed.
Who should you send your pitch to? One intriguing question is who actually makes this decision in Harris' world. Brian FallonAs the campaign's senior communications adviser, Ms. Harris is generally considered a key person, but interviews must be coordinated with her official office, which includes her communications director. Kirsten AllenI hear there's tension.
Another source of knowledge Process Stephanie CutterAs senior adviser on messaging and strategy, he will also play a much larger role. Jen O'Malley Dillon Senior Advisor David Plouffe Representing another faction; and Maya Harris and Tony WestHarris' sister and brother-in-law, Biden, will likely weigh in. All of the political activists on this list have longstanding relationships with networks and their major talent, but unlike Biden, Harris herself does not have the same deep history with the journalists currently courting her.
What is your goal? There has been considerable discussion in Harris circles about the purpose and timing of the interview, with the prevailing line in the political press being that Ms Harris needs to do a lengthy, serious interview with a well-known news anchor who will press her on the issues.
Harris has not held an unscripted press conference or interview about policy solutions in the 37 days since she entered the presidential race. Media outlets have not interviewed Harris on television since June 24, 2024, and the last time a media outlet asked Harris a question at a solo press conference was eight months ago, on December 2, 2023.
Recent Opinion Polls Found Eighty-nine percent of Americans say it is “very” or “somewhat” important for presidential candidates to answer questions from the press.
There may be two reasons why Harris is avoiding the media. First, her team may be worried about the candidate's likeability and her ability to speak off-the-cuff about policy without making a scathing gaffe. Here's a snippet of Harris' quote:
Second, the Harris campaign is in a dilemma: talking about policies on crime, inflation, and border security weakens the Biden-Harris Administration's claim that it has solved these important problems. But Harris must tout the success of her administration's policies to justify her record and her candidacy. You can read more about Harris' radical record here.
