Kamala Harris wants to have a border wall after opposing one for years

Vice President Kamala Harris has shifted positions on many issues since first running for president in 2020, but she has rarely announced her own changes of position.

The issue on which she recently changed her stance is the border wall. Harris has long been a staunch opponent of building a wall on the southern border. During the Trump administration and the 2020 campaign, she made it clear that she believes a border wall is racist and a waste of money.

Harris' opposition to the wall dates back to 2017. Written X states, “Trump's border wall is just a stupid way to spend money. I will block funding for it.”

“The strength of our coalition does not lie in the walls we build. Our power lies in our diversity,” Harris said. Posts At X in 2019.

“We need Trump's border wall.”

Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has indirectly voiced her support for a border wall.

It has been pointed out that: AxiosDuring her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Harris said she would sign the Senate bill proposed earlier this year to address the border crisis, which also included increased funding for the Ukraine war. The bill was heavily criticized by Republicans for including language that would enshrine some of the worst aspects of the border crisis into law, but it also calls for spending hundreds of millions of dollars in unspent funds on building a wall on the southern border.

“This bill requires a Trump border wall,” Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) told Axios. “The bill itself lays out standards that were set during the Trump administration. Where the wall is going to be built. How the wall is going to be built, how high it is, what type of wall it is, everything that Trump is building.”

Harris' campaign defended the budget, saying it would cover the wall by $650 million, far less than the $18 billion Trump wanted to spend during his presidency.

Harris’ timid support for a border wall shows how Democrats realize that the border issue, and illegal immigration in general, is a huge liability for them in the border crisis that began under the Biden-Harris administration.
