Dave Portnoy claims he was misquoted in Netflix Connor Stalions doc

Despite what is shown on the video, Dave Portnoy claims that what he actually said is not what you saw.

His best impression was The late Rick JamesPortnoy claimed he was the victim of “editing magic” that made it seem as if he was saying Connor Stallions, the alleged mastermind of the University of Michigan's sign-stealing racket, in the Netflix documentary “Sign Stealer,” told him he was wrongfully on the Central Michigan University sideline to steal signs.

Portnoy responded to Stallions' quote-tweeting of his video stating that he was guilty by claiming that somehow Stallions didn't actually say what he said: “But I didn't say that.”

Portnoy, an avid University of Michigan fan, appears in a new documentary focusing on the Stallions and his alleged role in the sign-stealing scheme that plunged Michigan into controversy last year.

One of the allegations is that the Stallions wore Central Michigan University uniforms on the sideline to get a glimpse of Big Ten rival Michigan State on Sept. 1, 2023.

Stallions is described as a bearded man wearing a hat and glasses on the sidelines in a photo that has since gone viral.

The documentary shows Stallions holding the photo next to his face and shaking his head, then cuts to Portnoy.

“Yeah, I know the answer because he told me,” Portnoy says in the video. “Yeah, that was Connor on the sideline. That was Connor on the sideline.”

This seems like pretty overwhelming evidence that Portnoy actually said that, and it would be hard to argue with what Portnoy's comments were referring to.

His first tweet about the edit came after one of the Barstool accounts tweeted, “Conor Stallions: I don't remember watching that particular game. Dave Portnoy: Yeah it was Conor on the sideline… he told me.”

Portnoy later maintained his innocence after receiving a tweet from an Ohio State fan: “@stoolpresidente said 'yes, that was Connor Stallions [sic]he told me on the CMU sideline, “What the hell are you doing? #MichiganCheated.”

In the documentary, Stallions is seen being asked about possibly attending the game, saying he “doesn't recall attending any particular game.”

The Stallions player also commented on a photo of himself allegedly on the sideline, saying, “I don't think this guy looks like me.”
