Texas is cleaning up its voter rolls.

Over one million people have just been removed from the rolls.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “These reforms have resulted in more than one million ineligible voters being removed from the voter rolls over the past three years, including foreign nationals, deceased voters and those who have moved to other states. Illegal voting will never be tolerated in Texas. We will aggressively protect Texans' sacred right to vote and will aggressively protect our elections from illegal votes.”

The Hill reported:

Texas announced Monday that more than 1 million people have been removed from the state's voter registration rolls since the last presidential election.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, said in a statement that the removals were part of efforts to “protect the right to vote and crack down on illegal voting.”

“These reforms have resulted in more than one million ineligible voters being removed from the voter rolls over the past three years, including foreign nationals, deceased voters and people who have emigrated to other states,” Abbott said. “Illegal voting will never be tolerated in Texas, and we will aggressively protect Texans' sacred right to vote and aggressively safeguard our elections from illegal votes.”

About half of the removed voters are dead, have requested removal or live in another state, according to figures from the governor's office. About 7,000 are foreign nationals who registered illegally and about 6,000 are convicted felons who can't vote.

About 463,000 people were on what Texas calls a “withhold list,” a list that counties put on voters who don't respond to required certification forms.

The government has entrusted Attorney General Ken Paxton with prosecuting cases of ineligible voters who participated in the election.

Fox News reported:

The Texas government has tasked Attorney General Ken Plaxton with prosecuting cases involving ineligible voters in elections.

“The Secretary of State and county registrars of voters have an ongoing legal obligation to review voter rolls, remove ineligible voters, and refer cases of possible illegal voting to the Attorney General's office and local authorities for investigation and prosecution,” Abbott wrote.
