Democratic strategist James Carville said Americans would tune in in droves to the debate between Vice President Harris and former President Trump because they love watching media “disasters” unfold on television.

“There's nothing the American people love more than a train wreck, and they saw that on June 27th,” Carville said, referring to President Biden's disastrous performance in the debate with President Trump. “So they'll be tuned in hoping to see another train wreck. The American people love a train wreck.”

The Trump and Harris campaigns have been battling over the rules of the debate after the two candidates agreed to debate in Philadelphia on September 10, hosted by ABC News.

“Trump needs this debate. He had to respond,” Carville said. “He knows that instinctively.”

“It's going to get very high ratings,” he added.

“They'll be watching in anticipation for Sept. 10,” Carville said.

The Trump and Harris campaigns have been at odds in recent days over the rules of the debate.

Trump spokesman Jason Miller said the Harris campaign was trying to change the debate structure.

“Enough with the game,” Miller previously said. Fox News Digital “We accepted the ABC debate on exactly the same terms as the CNN debate,” the statement said.

Brian Fallon, a senior adviser to the Harris campaign, previously told Fox News Digital that ABC and other networks should encourage Trump and Harris to keep their microphones on throughout the debate.

“We've told ABC and other networks looking to host a debate in October that both candidates' microphones should be on for the entire broadcast,” Fallon said. “Our understanding is that Trump insiders prefer that the microphones be muted because they don't believe the candidate can be presidential for 90 minutes on his own.”

“I suspect the Trump campaign hasn't even talked to their bosses about this controversy because they're embarrassed to admit they think they can't stand up to VP Harris without a mute button,” Fallon continued. “The VP is ready to deal with Trump's constant lies and obstruction in real time. It's time for Trump to stop hiding behind the mute button.”
