A young North Texas man drowned just an hour after baptizing a teenage girl while trying to save her from struggling in a lake.
On Saturday, 21-year-old Lincer Lopez was baptized into the light of Christ on Lake Waxahachie, but just an hour later, the girl began to drown and he quickly jumped in to rescue her. He then began struggling to stay above water, but a boater came to rescue them both. The girl was revived with CPR, but Lopez was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital.
Rinser's uncle, Jacob Lopez, called him a hero.
“He didn't hesitate to save others, he didn't even consider the risk that he might die, and he risked his own life to save others,” Jacob said.
“Lopez and the girl were part of a large church group in Garland that had been enjoying the lake after multiple baptisms. ExecutedAccording to New York Post.
Jacob Bell, the boater who pulled Lopez and the girl from the lake, said his heart went out to the family, as her brother had drowned at age 3.
“It still hasn't sunk in. It's hard,” Bell told local reporters.
“He was a hero. He had just been baptized and given his life to the Lord. Our family will be praying for his family and for the little girl's family,” Bell added. “He was a strong boy and his family should be very proud of him.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Lopez's family. Raised They have donated more than $30,000 and plan to use the money to ship the body back to his family in Mexico.
“We ask for the help of the community and friends of the Mejia Lopez family as we raise the funds to transport his body back to his home state of Chiapas, where his loved ones await,” the GoFundMe said.
“To all parents and family members, he was the eldest of seven siblings so if you can, please support us to achieve our goal,” he added.
