Harris Campaign Spox Michael Tyler Repeatedly Dodges on VP’s Changed Fracking Position

On “CNN News Central” on Wednesday, Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris-Waltz campaign, dodged a question from host John Berman about why Vice President Kamala Harris changed her position on fracking.

“On fracking, the vice president changed his position on fracking law in Pennsylvania. Do you know why she changed her position?” host John Berman asked.

“She's been very clear here. She's proud of the work she's done as part of the administration to bring American energy production to its highest levels ever, and we want to continue that progress in her first term. And whether it's energy policy, whether it's economic policy, Kamala Harris is a fighter, she always puts the interests of the American people first and she brings people together for solutions that improve our quality of life, our economy and our energy production,” Tyler said.

He continued, “I think that's also a very stark contrast to Donald Trump, who, when he's in Pennsylvania, he might say one thing during a speech, but, frankly, if you look broadly at his economic policies, his entire Project 2025 policy, the only solutions are ones that benefit the people at the very top, the billionaires, the rich like Donald Trump, the wealthiest corporations, and they don't benefit the American worker, they don't do anything to actually improve the lives of the American people, they don't do anything to actually improve the lives of the American consumer. So, again, I think the contrast is very clear.”

“We'll get to Project 2025 in a moment, but has anything happened on fracking, particularly during the four years of President Biden, that has changed her mind?” Berman asked.

Tyler responded, “No, I'll say it again, the Vice President is very proud of the Biden-Harris Administration's record on energy production and the economy in general. She wants to build on the progress that we've made here. That's true in energy production, that's true across the economy. She's proud of the 15 million new jobs that have been created, among them the 800,000 manufacturing jobs that have been created. She wants to continue that work, not just in energy production. As I explained a few weeks ago in North Carolina, the work that we're doing to lower costs for people, right? It's about creating jobs, but it's also about making sure that we lower costs for the American people, whether it's groceries, whether it's energy production, whether it's the cost of housing, for both renters and buyers. We have one candidate in this race who is really focused on finding solutions and bringing people together. And we have another candidate who is really focused on advancing a dangerous, extreme ideology, Project 2025. And that's Donald Trump.”

“Well, again, I think the issue of hydraulic fracturing is going to come up again in the future,” Berman said.
