Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris cited the Gospel of Luke in a message to the African Methodist Episcopal Church, saying her campaign is focused on the future.
“We will be organizing people at the polls and making sure our members are registered and ready to vote,” she said. Video Message The announcement was made at the AME Church General Assembly on Tuesday, “because, of course, we all know this is the most important election of our lifetimes.”
She said the US faces “a choice between two very different visions for the future of our nation” and that her campaign is “focused on the future.” In contrast, Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump and his campaign are “focused on the past.”
“We are not going backwards,” Harris insisted. “We are fighting for a future where no child will suffer in poverty, where every senior can retire with dignity, and where everyone has the opportunity to own a home, start a business and build generational wealth.”
“A future with affordable health care, affordable child care, paid leave, and a future where our most fundamental freedoms and rights, including religious freedom, are protected.”
According to Christian PostHarris then said, Luke 1:79The Bible describes faith as the power that “illumines those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, and guides our feet into the way of peace.”
“In moments like these, our faith guides us,” she added. “Faith in the promise of America: freedom, opportunity and justice. Not for the few, but for all.”
Pastor Harris' message was delivered at the AME Church's 52nd Quadrennial General Conference, held August 21-28 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

“It is my hope that our collective energy, dedication and commitment to God's plan for us as agents of liberation and social justice for all humanity will lead us to reimagine transformation to empower and develop clergy and laity for the next phase of this journey,” Davis said in a message of welcome to attendees.
“May God grant us the wisdom and courage to guide the Church, which he has entrusted to us, in the direction he desires: to embrace all members of the human family.”
